Social enterprise wine? Finally, there’s such a thing!
We are so proud at Munificent Wines to be supporting the important, life-changing work of SisterWorks – a not-for-profit social enterprise, based in Melbourne. As a social enterprise we’ve made a commitment to donate 50% of our pre-tax gross profits each year to SisterWorks.
Through work and entrepreneurship, SisterWorks’ mission is to support women who are refugees, asylum seekers or migrants to improve their confidence, mental well-being, sense of belonging and economic outlook. SisterWorks seeks to help create an Australia where all migrant women are given the opportunities to become economically empowered. They know work empowers women.
Munificent Wines is focused on supporting local small businesses, so partnering with an independent local charity made perfect sense to us. We want our contributions to have the largest possible impact, and a 2019 independent evaluation of the social and economic impact of SisterWorks concluded that $2.40 of value is created for every $1 invested. After we learned that contributions to SisterWorks essentially doubled in value, we knew it was the right charity for Munificent Wines. We were touched by what a big difference our ongoing contribution could make and felt that SisterWorks aligned perfectly with our values of generosity, respect and compassion.
Our target was to donate $25,000 to SisterWorks in our first year and we’re thrilled to say that we ended up donating over $30,000 in the 2020/21 financial year. We’re aiming to contribute over $50,000 in our second year of operation and $100,000 the year after.
